Section: The Institutions of the Union

In the programme “The Institutions of the Union”, all the decisional and advisory bodies that operate within the Community institutional structure were presented. In particular, the tasks, the working and the decision-making procedures of these institutions were described presenting the typical activities of each one of them, paying particular attention to the procedure of realisation of the European legal acts and to their impact upon national policies, as well as aspects that have stronger impact on the citizens’ everyday life.

Taking inspiration from the common elements such as the historical evolution, the composition, the internal organisation, the powers and the competences, representatives of the community institutions and of the academic world outlined the entire institutional framework of the Union.

In particular, Mr Rocco Cangelosi, ambassador and permanent representative of Italy at the EU, illustrated in details the European Council, the Council of Ministers, the European Commission, the European Parliament, the European Central Bank and the European Investments Bank.

Mr Carlo Curti Gialdino, professor of community law and Vice President of the Institute of European Studies “A. De Gasperi”, treated the theme of European judiciary system (Court of Justice and Court of First Instance).

Mr Roberto Santaniello, Director of the office of the European Commission Representation in Italy – Milan, spoke about the Economic and Social Committee, of the Regions Committee, of the State Auditors' Department, of the European Mediator, Eurogol, Eurojust and Olaf.

Mr Beniamino Caravita, professor of public law, illustrated the Community agencies.
